Kahdeen Keel
Music Executive of AWC Music
I am Kahdeen Keel, a Philadelphia, PA native, who started playing the piano at the age of nine. I was introduced to the instrument by my grandmother, the late Evangelist Maggie Pew (COGIC Evangelist). She taught me my first song, which I eventually perfected by ear, “This is the day that the Lord has made”. I took an extreme interest in gospel music and started playing for my family's church by the age of eleven. Although I was not yet skilled, I was encouraged every Sunday to keep playing by the members and leaders of Bibleway Evangelistic Church (Late Bishop Raymond H. Baylor Sr.).
In my teenage years, I found several inspirations and mentors. Derrick Jackson, Carlton Robinson, and Bryant Pugh contributed to my developing music style. I constantly studied their music. I would soon meet my mentor, John Blake Jr., who became impressed with my style of playing, and my eagerness to learn. John Blake Jr. was a renowned jazz violinist, pianist, composer and well respected. He was one of a few contributors to jazz history. I honor his memory and mentoring by donning one of his first teachings, “No one note is ever wrong, it’s just how you use it”. With that understanding, I play and compose music with no limitations, and I apply this concept to every instrument and song.
In high school I continued to excel in music by mastering other instruments. Piano, Drums, Organ, Bass Guitar, Upright Bass, Saxophone, Violin, Clarinet, and Trumpet are some of the instruments I explored during my early musical journey. Although piano and organ are my most preferred instruments to play, I have a deep respect for bass guitars and baritone saxophones and would not hesitate to play those various instruments.
I became very dedicated to music and ministry. I contributed in the growth of youth ministries, and music ministries between two churches for a period of time. I soon began playing at local youth events on weekends with many of Philly's gospel choirs and rap artist, such as Bj Shores & MSG, Grace Tabernacle Youth Choir, Justified & Bandtastic, Iyso, and Treena Ferebee to name a few. I mentored several musicians including my late brother-in-Christ, Brandon "B@M" Shuler, who went on to be with the Lord at a very young age. He coined the nickname "Professor" and "Doc" which I am affectionately known by close musicians and friends. I also did an internship at a music studio as a sound engineer, which later introduced me to producing music later. The experience led me to temporarily work with artists John Legend, and Jazmine Sullivan and meeting various music industry producers.
Previously dedicated to a growing gospel rap band as the music director, composer and arranger for over four years, I arrived to Bear, Delaware. The band was given an invitation by Alpha Worship Center to minister at a youth event called “The Battle”. This was the beginning of my interest in Alpha Worship Center.
Eventually, I moved to Delaware, became married, and joined Alpha Worship Center. Later after almost four years of membership, I joined the Music Ministry and for a short term, the Youth Ministry.
In God’s divine timing, I became essential to the Music Ministry. I am excited to help elevate it to bigger heights and greater praise and worship, with the help of an outstanding team.
I am pleased to call Alpha Worship Center my home. I pray my humbleness, dedication, kindness and passion is shown through my leadership over AWC Music.
Everyone has potential to be musical, let's find it together.
Teresa Johnson-Hayward
Worship Leader of AWC Music
I am affectionately called Tee, by my friends and family and was born in Easton, MD to Theodore Harris and the late Regena Johnson Manley, and primarily raised and instructed in the ways of the Lord by my great-grandmother, the late Ida L. Carr, who had me singing in choirs at the young age of 2 ½ .
I accepted the Lord as my personal savior at the tender age of fifteen as member of the Riverside Church of the Living God, under the leadership of Pastor John Broomer, Sr. As a young adult I joined the 8th Street Baptist church under the leadership of the Late Reginald Mercer Sr. to be with my family and was given my first solo the music director Sheila Cassidy who I still have the pleasure of singing with to this day.
I am one of the original members of The Russell Delegation choir of Wilmington, DE, I sang lead on their first project titled “Wait on the Lord-Live” and on the current release “Almighty God”. I was not just a singer in the alto section but also one of the choir directors and collaborated with John Washington on the song “Let Not Your Heart” from the first project. I also appeared with R.D. on the Bobby Jones Live television show. The Russell Delegation was birthed at Simpson United Methodist church.
While a member at Manna Christian Fellowship Church, under the leadership of Pastor Aaron R. Moore, I was the director of the Mass Choir and the Youth Praise Team, I was also a member of the Acapella Ensemble, where I sang alto and soprano.
The gifting in praise and worship was birthed under the leadership of Apostle Lafayette Cabell at God’s Temple Ministries in 1998.
I have had the pleasure on many occasions to sing the National Anthem at the Blue Rocks Minor League baseball games in Delaware and on September 2, 2007 I was one of the greeters in song at the Philadelphia International Airport for the National Baptist Convention. I am often asked to be the special guest soloist for morning worship services and asked to sing at numerous weddings, funerals, and special occasions.
I have been a part of the Alpha Worship Center (Alpha Baptist Church) family since 1999, when I was invited to help with the choir under the direction of Kenneth Brown, Jr. I have served under the leadership of Pastor Darryl Freeman, Pastor Emanuel L. Lambert and currently under the pastorate of Dr. Chad T. Hinson. I am a member and one of the worship leaders of the AWC Praise Team and have held the positions of assistant to the Min. of Music, director for the AWC Mass Choir and Leader of the AWC Singles Ministry.
I am a devoted and loving mother to my daughter, Tiera Renee Johnson. We share a special bond and an abounding love for music, singing and most importantly, God.
My ministry extends far beyond singing. I have been able to be a blessing to my family and friends with words of hope, encouragement, and her never ending desire to do God’s Will. I am known for praying on the spot when her friends call with concerns. My favorite scripture is Psalms 34:1 “I will bless the Lord at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth”; and my mantra is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” I never lose sight of the fact that all of my accomplishments and talents are a gift from God and my hearts desires are to be the best mother and friend I can be and to strive to make God smile.
